Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position in Biodiversity is situated within the Fach- und Methodenbereich (FMB) of GIZ, which provides methodological and technical services across all operational areas of the organization. The intern will primarily support the knowledge management efforts and the cross-departmental preparations for GIZ's participation in the IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) 202
This role is crucial for enhancing GIZ's positioning and knowledge management regarding biodiversity, as well as contributing to the overall mission of preserving biological diversity through various projects.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for creating contributions and managing digital exchange platforms related to biodiversity, such as MS Teams and community-based knowledge management systems. They will assist in preparing for GIZ's participation in the WCC, which includes internal communication, compiling overviews of GIZ contributions, preparing for side events, gathering relevant information, and supporting the evaluation of outcomes post-conference. Additionally, the intern will conduct portfolio analyses and research on current issues concerning the protection and sustainable use of terrestrial and marine biodiversity. They will also help in organizing and participating in internal events, such as thematic forums and discussions, and will support the creation and distribution of newsletters and information briefs. Furthermore, the intern will learn about GIZ-specific administrative and organizational tasks.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a degree program in natural sciences, political science, agriculture, forestry, or a related field, ideally from the third semester onwards. A solid understanding of biodiversity, international environmental policy, forestry, and natural resource management is essential. The candidate should demonstrate a high motivation to work in an interdisciplinary context and possess excellent oral and written communication skills in German. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of an additional foreign language is desirable. Experience in managing information on digital platforms and familiarity with the political and social conditions in developing and transitional countries is advantageous, as is a proactive attitude.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled in a relevant academic program, with a focus on natural sciences, political science, agriculture, or forestry. The internship is only available to those who are either currently studying, engaged in a training program that includes an internship, or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandatory, any background in managing information on digital platforms or familiarity with biodiversity and environmental policies will be beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the requirements of the internship.
Languages: Fluency in German is required, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in English is also mandatory, and knowledge of an additional language is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's profile for this role.
