The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) serves as the UN headquarters in Africa. Job Overview:
This internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is based in the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), specifically within the Division of Administrative Services (DAS), Information and Communication Technology Service (ICTS), focusing on Information Security. The intern will report directly to the supervisor of the Information Security team and will be involved in various IT-related tasks that support the overall mission of UNON. The role is designed to provide practical experience in the field of information technology, particularly in areas related to information security, network administration, and IT support. Interns will gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting, system configuration, and network management, which are essential skills in the IT industry. The internship is expected to last for six months, providing a comprehensive learning experience in a dynamic and international environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: assisting in the installation of applications and operating systems, configuring and setting up new computers, migrating computers to Azure Active Directory, creating end-user guidelines and standard operating procedures, troubleshooting and providing IT support to end-users, conducting basic wireless and wired network troubleshooting, scanning and removing malware infections from computers, conducting application and OS updates/upgrade lab tests, deploying software updates, capturing computer images for forensic analysis, providing network administration services, monitoring the health of the overall network, reporting problems and incidents, configuring and installing network architecture, testing all changes prior to implementation, preparing network schematics and documentation, assisting in server installation and setup, maintaining server equipment in control rooms, maintaining data center equipment, configuring environmental monitoring devices, providing level 1 support to IMS servers and the network team, assisting in network cabling installation and maintenance, and effectively communicating with site supervisors regarding any issues that require intervention.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate school program in information and communication technology or a related area; (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a degree program in information and communication technology or a related area; or (c) if pursuing studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an information and communication technology degree or related degree. A field of study closely related to the internship is required, and applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme.

Educational Background:
The preferred area of study for applicants is undergraduate studies in Information Technology, specifically those who are in their minimum 4th year of study. Candidates should have a strong academic background in information and communication technology or a related field, which will provide them with the foundational knowledge necessary to succeed in this internship role.

Experience:
While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, it is essential that they have a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship they are applying for. This means that candidates should ideally have some practical experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in information security and IT support.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable and can enhance the candidate's application, as it demonstrates the ability to communicate in a multilingual environment.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, meaning that they will not receive a salary during their internship.
