Job Overview: The Crime PreventionIntern position at the UNODC New York Liaison Office is designed for individuals who are passionate about crime prevention and criminal justice. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a prestigious international organization while contributing to important global issues such as transnational organized crime, human trafficking, and drug control. The intern will work closely with experienced professionals and will be involved in various tasks that support the office's mission. The internship is full-time, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week, and can be conducted in-person in New York or remotely, depending on the intern's preferences. The expected duration of the internship is six months, starting on 3 September 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities, which may include but are not limited to: 1) Monitoring global developments related to UNODC's mandate, including issues like organized crime, terrorism, and drug trafficking; 2) Conducting research and assisting in the preparation of documents, summaries, and web content; 3) Attending meetings such as the General Assembly and Security Council, taking notes, and drafting reports; 4) Assisting in organizing meetings, high-level debates, and conferences, including virtual events; 5) Creating communications and advocacy materials for online publication; 6) Updating the Office's information resources and managing key documents; 7) Supporting the team in various operational tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: (a) be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate degree or a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Candidates who are currently enrolled in a degree program or have recently completed their studies are encouraged to apply. The focus should be on areas related to international relations, criminal justice, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines that align with the UNODC's mission.
