Job Overview: The position of Consultant National Senior Spécialiste en Géo-information involves providing specialized expertise in geo-information for the project GoLCos. The consultant will be expected to leverage their knowledge in geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing to support the project objectives. The consultant will work closely with project teams to ensure that geo-information is effectively integrated into project planning and implementation. The position is critical for enhancing the project's capacity to utilize geo-information for decision-making and policy formulation. The consultant will also be responsible for training local staff and stakeholders on the use of geo-information tools and methodologies, ensuring sustainability and knowledge transfer.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Consultant National Senior Spécialiste en Géo-information include:
Conducting comprehensive assessments of geo-information needs for the GoLCos project.
Developing and implementing geo-information strategies that align with project goals.
Analyzing spatial data and producing high-quality maps and visualizations to support project activities.
Collaborating with project teams to integrate geo-information into project planning and execution.
Providing technical guidance and support to project staff and stakeholders on geo-information tools and methodologies.
Conducting training sessions and workshops for local staff on the use of GIS and remote sensing technologies.
Ensuring the quality and accuracy of geo-information data used in the project.
Preparing reports and documentation on geo-information activities and outcomes.
Engaging with local communities and stakeholders to gather geo-information relevant to the project. 1
Contributing to the overall monitoring and evaluation of the project through geo-information analysis.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include:
A strong background in geo-information science, geography, or a related field.
Proven experience in the application of GIS and remote sensing technologies in development projects.
Familiarity with geo-information software and tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and remote sensing platforms.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex spatial data.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of local context and issues related to geo-information in Burkina Faso is an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of a Master's degree in geo-information science, geography, environmental science, or a related field. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have a strong academic foundation in spatial analysis, cartography, and remote sensing, supported by relevant coursework and research experience.
Experience: Candidates are expected to have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the field of geo-information, with a focus on development projects. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar agencies, is highly desirable. Proven track record of successfully implementing geo-information projects and providing technical support to project teams is essential.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the official language of Burkina Faso. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it facilitates communication with international stakeholders and partners. Knowledge of local languages may also be beneficial for community engagement.
Additional Notes: This position is a consultancy role with a contract duration of 90 days. It is a full-time position, and the consultant will be expected to work on-site in Burkina Faso.
