Job Overview:
The UNV Architect position is based in the UNDP Country Office in Cairo and involves supporting the Project Manager in the delivery of a significant building project aimed at co-locating UN entities in Egypt. The role encompasses a variety of architectural and design responsibilities, including the development of design drawings, technical documentation, and stakeholder communication materials. The architect will play a crucial role in ensuring that the project adheres to architectural standards and meets the requirements of the various UN entities involved. This position requires a proactive approach to design visualization, office space allocation, and meticulous documentation to facilitate effective project management and stakeholder engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the UNV Architect include:
  • Design Support: Assisting in the development of design drawings while ensuring compliance with architectural standards and project requirements. Reviewing drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness. Preparing 3D renderings and architectural visualizations to effectively communicate design intent. Assisting in the preparation of office space allocation schemes for UN entities, optimizing space usage while considering organizational needs.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Attending project-related meetings and accurately documenting minutes in accordance with UN standards. Drafting professional correspondence related to the project, including emails and letters. Contributing to the preparation of presentations for stakeholder updates, including layout plans and 3D visualizations. Organizing and maintaining project documents in an established filing system for easy access.
  • Other Duties: Undertaking additional tasks as assigned by the Project Manager to ensure the successful delivery of the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the UNV Architect position should possess a strong foundation in architectural design and project management. They should demonstrate proficiency in design software and tools, as well as a solid understanding of architectural standards and regulations. The ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and work collaboratively in a team environment is essential. Candidates should also exhibit adaptability, creativity, and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

Educational Background:
A degree in architecture or a related field is required for the UNV Architect position. Candidates should have a solid understanding of architectural principles, design processes, and project management methodologies. Additional certifications or training in relevant software tools and design techniques would be advantageous.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in architectural design and project management, preferably within a UN or international development context. Experience working on large-scale construction projects and familiarity with the specific challenges of co-locating multiple entities would be beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully delivering design projects on time and within budget, as well as the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of Arabic would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the candidate's effectiveness in the role.

This position is based in Cairo, Egypt, which is classified as a family duty station, offering a range of services and good living conditions. The UN Volunteer community provides a comprehensive package, including a Volunteer Living Allowance of approximately EGP 25,300 per month, a one-time entry lump-sum payment, and an exit lump-sum upon contract completion.
