Job Posting Organization:
The job posting organization is the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which is a global development network advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience, and resources to help people build a better life. Established in 1965, UNDP operates in approximately 170 countries and territories, working to eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities through sustainable development. The organization focuses on various areas including democratic governance, peacebuilding, climate change, and disaster resilience, and has a significant presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where it aims to support the country's development goals and enhance the capacity of local institutions.

Job Overview:
The position of National Consultant for the development of a promotional package for Protected Areas involves creating a comprehensive outreach strategy and promotional materials for specific protected areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely Vjetrenica-Popovo polje PL, Orjen PN, and Drina NP. The consultant will be responsible for conducting research, engaging with stakeholders, and developing promotional content that highlights the ecological and cultural significance of these areas. The role requires a deep understanding of environmental conservation, tourism promotion, and community engagement. The consultant will work closely with UNDP and local authorities to ensure that the promotional package aligns with national and international conservation goals, and effectively communicates the value of these protected areas to both local communities and potential visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Conducting a thorough assessment of the current promotional materials and outreach activities related to the protected areas.
  • Engaging with local stakeholders, including community members, government officials, and conservation organizations, to gather insights and feedback.
  • Developing a strategic plan for the promotion of the protected areas, including identifying target audiences and key messaging.
  • Creating high-quality promotional materials, such as brochures, social media content, and informational videos, that effectively communicate the unique features of the protected areas.
  • Organizing outreach activities and events to raise awareness and encourage visitation to the protected areas.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the promotional efforts and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Collaborating with UNDP and other partners to ensure that the promotional package is integrated into broader conservation and tourism strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, marketing, or a related field. They should have proven experience in developing promotional materials and outreach strategies, particularly in the context of environmental conservation or tourism. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the consultant will need to engage with a variety of stakeholders. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity and innovation in their approach to promoting protected areas, as well as the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in environmental science, marketing, communications, or a related field is required. A master's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant area will be considered an asset. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism practices.

Experience:
The position requires at least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in environmental promotion, marketing, or community engagement. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of conservation or sustainable development, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the protected areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina and previous work with local communities will be considered an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and the local language (Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian) is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the tourism sector, would be considered a plus, as it may enhance the consultant's ability to reach a broader audience.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy is expected to last from March to October 2025, with a total of up to 65 consultancy days. The position is classified as a national assignment, and candidates must be residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The consultant will be compensated based on their experience and qualifications, and the payment terms will be discussed during the contract negotiation process. Interested candidates must submit their offers directly through the UNDP supplier portal by the specified deadline.
