Job Overview:
The position of Consultant is crucial in the context of the ongoing cultural heritage crisis in Ukraine, particularly following the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation. The Consultant will be involved in the UNESCO project aimed at providing emergency measures at the Khortytsia National Reserve in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. This project is a response to the significant damage inflicted on cultural infrastructure, including libraries, museums, and cultural centers, due to the conflict. The Consultant will play a vital role in supporting the Reserve's efforts to safeguard cultural heritage through practical training and apprenticeships for young professionals. The position requires on-site work, where the Consultant will engage in conservation and restoration activities, ensuring the long-term preservation of cultural artifacts and enhancing the efficiency of collection management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will undertake various tasks related to the conservation and restoration of museum collections, specifically focusing on archaeological objects. Responsibilities include direct participation in the stabilization and preliminary conservation of artifacts during hydroarchaeological investigations in the Dnipro River channel. The Consultant will also be involved in the conservation of a medieval monoxyl boat and other ancient wooden vessels, as well as the restoration of metal archaeological artifacts discovered during underwater research. Additionally, the Consultant will work closely with the Restoration Department of the National Reserve to ensure proper preservation conditions for cultural heritage objects, particularly under wartime conditions. Regular progress reports will be submitted to UNESCO for approval, detailing the activities and outcomes of the conservation efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in history, restoration, or a related field. Previous collaboration with the Khortytsia National Reserve is considered an advantage, as it demonstrates familiarity with the specific challenges and needs of the institution. Strong communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with the Reserve's staff and other stakeholders involved in the project.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as history, restoration, or cultural heritage management is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for the conservation and restoration tasks that the Consultant will undertake.

Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience in conservation and restoration practices, particularly in the context of cultural heritage. Experience working with archaeological artifacts and previous collaboration with cultural institutions, especially the Khortytsia National Reserve, will be viewed favorably. The position is aimed at junior-level professionals, indicating that while prior experience is beneficial, it is not strictly required, allowing for recent graduates or those with limited experience to apply.

Languages:
Proficiency in Ukrainian is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication at the Khortytsia National Reserve. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and enhance the Consultant's ability to engage with UNESCO's broader network.

Additional Notes:
The contract is for a duration of 26 weeks, with a part-time commitment of 16 hours per week, totaling 832 hours. The position is classified as Level 1 - Junior, indicating that it is suitable for early-career professionals. The work will be conducted on-site in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, and the Consultant will report directly to UNESCO.
