Job Overview: This consultancy position involves conducting spatial and geographical analysis of the impacts generated by the energy and hydrocarbons sectors on biodiversity in Colombia. The work is part of the Biodiversity Financing Initiative (BIOFIN), which aims to develop innovative financing solutions for biodiversity conservation. The consultant will be expected to manage, collect, and analyze spatial data, develop thematic maps, and create visualization tools based on geographic information. This role is crucial for understanding the environmental impacts of these sectors and informing policy decisions to protect biodiversity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
Manage and oversee the collection of spatial data relevant to the energy and hydrocarbons sectors.
Conduct thorough analysis of the collected data to assess impacts on biodiversity.
Develop thematic maps that illustrate the spatial distribution of impacts on biodiversity.
Create visualization tools that effectively communicate findings to stakeholders.
Collaborate with other experts and stakeholders to ensure comprehensive analysis and reporting.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
Ensure compliance with UNDP guidelines and standards throughout the consultancy period.
Participate in meetings and workshops to present findings and gather feedback.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a professional degree in social sciences, engineering, economics, administrative sciences, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, or geographic information sciences. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and proficiency in spatial data management and analysis. Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping software is essential. Candidates must also exhibit excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
Educational Background: A professional degree in one of the following fields is required: social sciences, engineering, economics, administrative sciences, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, or geographic information sciences. Advanced degrees or specialized training in spatial analysis or related fields will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in spatial data management, analysis, and visualization. Experience in developing thematic maps and using GIS tools is essential. Specific experience in analyzing the impacts of energy and hydrocarbons sectors on biodiversity will be highly regarded. Candidates should provide evidence of their experience through previous projects or roles that demonstrate their capabilities in these areas.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the consultancy will be conducted in Colombia. Proficiency in English is considered a valuable asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and enhance the consultant's ability to engage with global best practices in biodiversity financing.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is expected to last for a period of four (4) months. This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and candidates should be prepared to work independently while also collaborating with UNDP staff and other stakeholders.
