Job Overview:
The UN News Stringer position involves producing and submitting multimedia content in the Russian language, aimed at enhancing the storytelling capabilities of UN News Language Units. The role requires the creation of a maximum of ten approved multimedia packages that highlight local voices and field-based narratives related to UN activities, particularly focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), human rights, and climate issues. The stringer will work closely with the relevant Unit Chief to develop story ideas, timelines, and content that resonate with the target audience. The position is expected to last for a maximum of six months, with the stringer operating primarily in Ukraine, although the position is based in New York City. The role demands a strong understanding of multimedia production, including text, audio, and video, and the ability to produce content suitable for both news and social media platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN News Stringer include:
  • Liaising with the relevant Unit Chief to plan and produce quality multimedia content that aligns with UN priorities and campaigns.
  • Pitching story ideas and agreeing on timelines and content production with the commissioning office.
  • Researching content from credible sources, writing stories and scripts, and creating multimedia stories that reflect local angles and target audiences.
  • Coordinating technical arrangements and organizing interviews in the countries of assignment as needed.
  • Following UN News guidelines to ensure editorial clarity and sound political judgment, including obtaining necessary permissions and copyright approvals.
  • Demonstrating well-rounded experience in broadcast/digital journalism and multimedia production, with a strong emphasis on video production skills.
  • Providing references and work samples as requested.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the UN News Stringer position include:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, video production, or a related field is desirable.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in broadcast/digital journalism in the assigned language(s) is required.
  • Proven experience in producing a full range of multimedia features is essential.
  • Experience in video production, including filming and editing, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with recording and editing audio material is also desirable.
  • Experience in digital content publishing and the incorporation of photos and graphics is beneficial.
