Job Overview:
The internship position is within the Social Development Division, specifically in the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS). This internship is designed for a duration of 3 to 6 months, during which interns will support ESCAP's initiatives related to gender equality, women's empowerment, and disability inclusion. Interns will engage in various tasks that align with their academic background and the needs of the division. The role involves conducting research and data analysis on critical issues such as economic participation and leadership in decision-making, as well as contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals. Interns will also assist in organizing meetings and workshops, preparing written outputs, and providing support for technical cooperation projects. This is a full-time, unpaid internship, requiring a commitment of 37.5 hours per week, with working hours from 09:00 to 16:30, including a 45-minute lunch break. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member in the GESIS section, gaining valuable experience in the field of social development and international cooperation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting research and data analysis on gender equality, women's empowerment, and disability inclusion; assisting in the organization and facilitation of meetings and workshops; contributing to the preparation of written materials such as background papers, speeches, and presentations; providing support for the implementation of technical cooperation projects related to gender-responsive planning and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; and performing any other duties as assigned by the Chief of Section. The specific responsibilities may vary based on the intern's background and the duration of the internship, allowing for a tailored experience that aligns with the intern's skills and interests.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). A background in social sciences, economics, or other relevant fields is required. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard applications and have a strong preference for experience in data analysis and data visualization. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are essential. Candidates should also exhibit the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and respect different opinions.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in or completion of a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program in social sciences, economics, or related fields. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender equality, social inclusion, and the broader social development agenda pursued by ESCAP.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Languages:
Fluency in English is required for the internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additional Notes:
The internship may be undertaken remotely or in Bangkok, depending on ongoing construction at the ESCAP premises and the decision made with the hiring manager. Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Thailand may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
