Job Overview:
The Regional Coordination Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting UN Women and UN Country Teams in operationalizing commitments to gender equality and women's empowerment (GEWE). This position involves providing technical support and guidance to the Regional Director and Country Offices, engaging with UNCTs and Resident Coordinators to implement accountability frameworks related to gender equality. The Specialist will represent UN Women at various UN conferences and high-level meetings, ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into joint programmes and advocacy efforts. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, to enhance the effectiveness of gender mainstreaming initiatives. The Specialist will also be responsible for developing partnerships and mobilizing resources to support gender equality initiatives across the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Regional Coordination Specialist include providing technical support to the Regional Director and Country Offices on inter-agency coordination, offering analysis and advice on engaging UNCTs and Resident Coordinators regarding accountability frameworks, and representing UN Women at UN conferences. The Specialist will provide guidance on the development of gender analyses in Country Analyses and Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (UNSDCFs), ensuring that gender equality is integrated into strategic prioritization and results matrices. Additionally, the Specialist will coordinate capacity-building initiatives, monitor the implementation of the UN Gender Equality Acceleration Plan (GEAP), and support intergovernmental and normative efforts related to gender equality. The role also involves managing personnel under supervision and ensuring adherence to UN Women’s workplace relations policies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in international development, public administration, public policy, or a relevant social science field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in inter-agency coordination, with 5 years specifically in support of normative intergovernmental processes. Technical and capacity-building experience in gender and/or human rights of women is essential, along with familiarity with UNCT-SWAP Gender Equality Scorecard and other gender equality processes. Experience in developing countries and leading teams in international settings is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree or equivalent in fields such as international development, public administration, public policy, or other relevant social sciences. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of gender equality and women's empowerment within the context of international development and UN operations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in inter-agency coordination, with a strong emphasis on supporting normative intergovernmental processes. Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in technical and capacity-building roles related to gender equality and women's rights. Experience in developing and implementing gender equality frameworks, such as the UNCT-SWAP Gender Equality Scorecard, is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience working in developing countries within the UN system and leading teams in international settings.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable and would enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to UN Women’s global initiatives.

This position is full-time and involves leading a team of two personnel, along with technical consultants as required.
