Job Overview: The Land and Water Officer position is integral to the FAO's mission in the Asia and Pacific region, focusing on water resources management. The officer will be responsible for providing comprehensive technical and policy expertise to support the planning, development, and implementation of regional programs and projects. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including country offices, to ensure that FAO's strategic objectives are met. Duties and Responsibilities: The Land and Water Officer will manage the water team within the RAP Land and Water Module, leading the development and implementation of FAO's water resources management programs in Asia and the Pacific. Key responsibilities include analyzing global and regional trends, identifying strategic priorities, and acting as a focal point for data collection and research on water resources. The officer will contribute to the development of water programs such as the Water Scarcity Programme and the GEF International Waters Programme, ensuring alignment with regional priorities. Additionally, the officer will develop strategic partnerships with regional organizations and stakeholders, contribute to the overall RAP program of work, and perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in hydrology, water resources management, natural resources management, environment, or a related field. A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in water resources management and environmental activities is required. Candidates should have a working knowledge of English and intermediate proficiency in another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as hydrology, water resources management, or environmental science is essential for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge required for effective water resources management and policy development.
Experience: Candidates should have at least seven years of relevant experience in water resources management and related activities. This experience should include work in water accounting, allocation, planning, and agricultural water management. Experience in field positions and working with diverse stakeholders is desirable, as is a proven track record in planning and implementing water management programs.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, with a level C proficiency required. Additionally, candidates should have intermediate knowledge (level B) of another official FAO language, which could include Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish.
