Job Overview: The Language Support Specialist position is a critical role within the Human Resources Division of FAO, specifically in the Learning and Performance branch. The primary focus of this position is to provide comprehensive language services, which include copywriting, translation, and proofreading of learning content from English into one of the FAO's official languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting the development of learning and development initiatives, particularly through the translation and localization of eLearning modules. This role requires a high level of language proficiency and the ability to adapt learning materials based on feedback from subject matter experts. The Language Support Specialist will ensure that all learning materials comply with FAO standards and guidelines, contributing to the overall quality and effectiveness of FAO's educational resources.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Language Support Specialist will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: writing, translating, reviewing, and proofreading learning materials to ensure high-quality language accuracy and consistency; adapting deliverables based on feedback from subject matter experts; ensuring compliance with FAO standards and guidelines for all learning materials; collaborating with other team members to enhance the quality of educational content; and utilizing writing and translation technology, including Artificial Intelligence, to improve efficiency and effectiveness in language services. The specialist will also be expected to maintain a high level of communication with stakeholders and contribute to the continuous improvement of language services within the organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university or technical degree in Professional Writing, Translation, Philology, Journalism, Communication, Pedagogy, or related fields. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in translating and proofreading material/content from English into one of the relevant FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is required. Candidates should also demonstrate a working knowledge (Level C) of English and one additional FAO official language. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in the relevant languages are essential, along with knowledge and experience in writing, proofreading, and translating material from English.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university or technical degree in fields related to writing, translation, communication, or pedagogy.
