Job Overview: The National Consultant - Indigenous Peoples and Cultural Heritage Knowledge Specialist position is designed for an individual who will provide expert knowledge and support regarding indigenous peoples and their cultural heritage. The consultant will be expected to engage with local communities, understand their cultural practices, and integrate this knowledge into broader development initiatives. The role involves conducting research, facilitating workshops, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure that indigenous perspectives are included in policy-making and project implementation. The consultant will work for a period of 20 working days, contributing to the UNDP's mission of promoting sustainable development while respecting and preserving cultural heritage.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National Consultant include but are not limited to:
Conducting comprehensive assessments of indigenous peoples' cultural heritage and practices.
Engaging with local communities to gather insights and perspectives on their cultural heritage.
Developing reports and documentation that reflect the findings of the assessments.
Facilitating workshops and discussions with stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of indigenous issues.
Collaborating with UNDP teams and other partners to integrate indigenous knowledge into development projects.
Providing recommendations for policy changes that support the rights and cultural heritage of indigenous peoples.
Ensuring that all activities are conducted in a culturally sensitive manner and in accordance with international standards.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a strong background in indigenous studies, cultural heritage, or a related field. Candidates should possess excellent research and analytical skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups. Experience working with indigenous communities and knowledge of their rights and cultural practices is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and social justice.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, Cultural Heritage, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD in a relevant discipline will be given preference. Relevant certifications or training in community engagement or cultural heritage management will also be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience working with indigenous communities or in cultural heritage management. Experience in conducting research and facilitating community workshops is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP's work and its approach to sustainable development will be considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local indigenous languages will be considered a strong advantage, as it will facilitate better communication with the communities involved.
Additional Notes: This position is a consultancy role for a fixed period of 20 working days. It is a part-time engagement, and the consultant will be expected to work remotely and on-site as necessary. The consultant will be compensated based on the UNDP's established rates for individual contractors.
