Job Overview: The position of IC External Competency assessment for malaria microscopists ECAMM involves conducting a thorough evaluation of the competencies of malaria microscopists. This role is crucial in ensuring that the personnel involved in malaria diagnosis are adequately skilled and meet the required standards. The individual contractor will be responsible for assessing the technical skills and knowledge of the microscopists, providing feedback, and recommending areas for improvement. The assessment will be conducted over a 30-day period, during which the contractor will engage with various stakeholders, including health professionals and laboratory technicians, to gather data and insights. The contractor is expected to deliver a comprehensive report detailing the findings of the assessment and suggesting actionable recommendations to enhance the competency of malaria microscopists.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct competency assessments of malaria microscopists in accordance with established guidelines and protocols.
Develop assessment tools and methodologies to evaluate the technical skills and knowledge of the microscopists.
Engage with health professionals and laboratory technicians to gather relevant data and insights.
Analyze assessment results and identify strengths and weaknesses in the competencies of the microscopists.
Prepare a detailed report summarizing the findings of the assessment, including recommendations for improvement.
Present the assessment results to relevant stakeholders and facilitate discussions on enhancing competency standards.
Ensure compliance with UNDP procurement processes and guidelines throughout the assessment period.
Maintain clear and open communication with UNDP and other stakeholders regarding the progress of the assessment.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in conducting competency assessments, particularly in the field of malaria diagnosis and microscopy.
Strong understanding of malaria diagnostic techniques and laboratory practices.
Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with UNDP procurement processes and guidelines is an advantage.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or a related field is required. A Master's degree or higher qualification in a relevant discipline will be considered an asset. Additional certifications in malaria diagnostics or laboratory management will also be beneficial.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in laboratory diagnostics, with a focus on malaria microscopy. Experience in conducting training or competency assessments in a laboratory setting is highly desirable. Familiarity with international health standards and guidelines related to malaria diagnosis is also preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Zimbabwe will be considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and health professionals.
Additional Notes: This position is an individual contractor role for a fixed duration of 30 days. The contractor is expected to work full-time during this period. The position is based in Zimbabwe, and the contractor may be required to travel within the country to conduct assessments. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and benefits will be outlined in the contract.
