Job Overview: The Nutrition Officer will play a critical role in supporting the World Food Programme's efforts in Chad, particularly in the context of a complex food security situation exacerbated by climate shocks, conflict, and economic vulnerabilities. The position involves working closely with various stakeholders, including UNICEF and the Ministry of Health, to implement the WFP/UNICEF transition plan and ensure the effective integration of nutrition programming into broader humanitarian responses. The officer will be responsible for coordinating emergency nutrition responses, managing partnerships, and ensuring that nutrition interventions are evidence-based and aligned with the latest WHO guidelines. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances in the field.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
Collaborating with UNICEF and the Ministry of Health to coordinate the implementation of the WFP/UNICEF transition plan for adopting new WHO guidelines.
Supporting the Cash for Prevention programme by ensuring effective integration of social behavior change (SBC) strategies and robust monitoring and evaluation components.
Providing technical support for emergency nutrition responses across all regions, particularly for refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and during lean seasons.
Assisting in evidence generation and documentation of lessons learned from strategic nutrition partnerships.
Supporting the implementation of national SMART surveys and other assessments to monitor nutrition programme performance.
Strengthening collaboration with WFP sub-units and other UN agencies and NGOs involved in complementary activities.
Monitoring the pipeline status of nutrition programmes and ensuring timely reporting on activity execution.
Preparing monthly activity reports and ensuring they are consolidated and entered into the appropriate systems for analysis.
Executing any additional tasks that may strengthen the WFP nutrition response in Chad as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be considered. The role requires strong skills in developing and implementing nutrition programmes, excellent coordination abilities, and the capacity to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government authorities and NGOs. Familiarity with nutrition programming in emergency contexts and experience in cash-based transfer programming are highly desirable. Candidates should also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in multicultural settings.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, or Food Technology. A first university degree combined with extensive relevant experience may also be acceptable. Continuous professional development through training and courses related to nutrition and food security is encouraged and may enhance a candidate's profile.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of field experience in nutrition, health, food security, or a related field is required. Experience working with the United Nations or international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) is considered an advantage. Candidates should have a proven track record in emergency nutrition programming and familiarity with nutritional research and evaluations. Experience in cash-based transfer programming and a good understanding of WFP's internal business processes are also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in French (Level C) is mandatory, while at least an intermediate level of English is required. Proficiency in Arabic would be an additional advantage, enhancing communication capabilities in the diverse contexts in which WFP operates.
