Job Overview:
The Reviser will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of translations related to a wide array of subjects handled by the United Nations. This position requires the incumbent to revise translations, ensuring they meet or exceed the established workload standards. The Reviser will also be responsible for translating texts on a self-revising basis, particularly those that require a high level of expertise and proficiency. The role involves utilizing standard computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and contributing to their implementation and improvement. Additionally, the Reviser will develop new terminology when necessary, conduct linguistic research, and provide input to multilingual terminology databases. The position also includes counseling and assisting translators, participating in the establishment of terminology standards, and supervising small groups of translators. The Reviser must maintain a high output speed while meeting deadlines and will also be involved in data collection and analysis to support decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Reviser will be responsible for the following duties: revising translations across various subjects, translating texts while adhering to workload standards, utilizing CAT tools, developing new terminology, conducting linguistic research, assisting and counseling translators, participating in terminology standard setting, maintaining output speed and quality, supervising translator groups, acting as a Programming Officer when required, collecting and analyzing data for insights, and performing other related duties as necessary. The role demands a high level of professionalism, teamwork, planning, and accountability, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level degree from a recognized university or institution. Additionally, they must have passed the relevant combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Chinese Translators or a similar examination held before 201
  • A strong command of Chinese as the main language is essential, along with excellent knowledge of English, as assessed by the relevant UN language examination. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered desirable.

Educational Background:
A first-level degree from a university or an equivalent institution is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that candidates have the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the Reviser effectively.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in translation, editing, self-revision, or related fields. Out of this experience, at least three years should be in a multilingual setting, preferably within the United Nations Common System or a similar international organization. Experience with CAT tools and in translating a broad range of subjects, particularly legal, economic, or technical documents, is highly desirable. Self-revision experience is also beneficial.

Languages:
The primary language required for this position is Chinese, which must be the candidate's main language. A perfect command of Chinese is essential. Additionally, candidates must have excellent knowledge of English, as demonstrated by passing the relevant UN language examination. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an asset.
