Job Overview: The internship position is primarily focused on supporting the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) programme, which aims to ensure a sufficient number of qualified aviation professionals to manage and maintain the international air transport system. The intern will work under the supervision of the NGAP programme manager and will be involved in organizing the NGAP Global Summit, workshops, webinars, and related outreach activities. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, as the intern will assist in preparing materials, maintaining the NGAP website, conducting research, and coordinating with various stakeholders. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in aviation and international relations to gain practical experience in a global organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: assisting in the preparation of the NGAP Global Summit and related events; supporting the coordination of outreach materials and communication activities; updating and maintaining the NGAP Global Summit website and social media platforms; preparing reports and meeting minutes; drafting correspondences, speeches, and presentations; conducting research on NGAP initiatives; contributing to the redesign of ICAO's public website content related to NGAP; and supporting communication with internal and external stakeholders. Additional tasks may be assigned by the supervisor as needed, providing a comprehensive learning experience in the field of aviation and international cooperation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent communication and research skills are essential, along with familiarity with website content management systems and social media platforms. Practical experience with collaborative documentation tools or work management platforms is advantageous. Knowledge of ICAO's mandate, the aviation sector, or the United Nations system is desirable, as it will enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the NGAP programme.
Educational Background: Candidates are required to have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (second-level university degree or higher) in fields such as political science, law, public administration, management, or a related field in aviation. For applicants from countries where higher education does not have distinct undergraduate and graduate stages, at least four years of full-time university studies towards a degree is required. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of international aviation and the role of ICAO.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandated, any relevant experience in project management, event organization, or research within the aviation sector or international organizations will be beneficial. Interns should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-paced environment, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Languages: Fluent reading, writing, and speaking abilities in English are essential for this position. A working knowledge of a second language of the Organization, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered a desirable asset, as it may enhance communication with a broader range of stakeholders and contribute to the intern's effectiveness in the role.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and all costs related to the internship must be borne by the intern. The duration of the internship is six months, and the intern is expected to work remotely or from the ICAO Office in Montreal on a full-time basis, five days a week. Interns are not permitted to engage in any other form of employment within ICAO during the internship period and are ineligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in the Secretariat or be contracted for any other remunerated employment with ICAO for six months following the end of their internship. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Canada may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. It is important to note that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
