Job Overview: The National UN Youth Volunteer will play a crucial role in the UNOPS project titled 'Cities 4 Women: Inclusive and Climate Resilient Urbanization in Nepal.' This project aims to integrate inclusive and resilient urban planning into municipal infrastructure processes, particularly focusing on public open spaces. The volunteer will support various activities, including reviewing municipal planning documents, conducting workshops, and co-designing urban interventions that are gender-sensitive and climate-responsive. The role requires collaboration with municipalities and communities to enhance urban planning capacities and ensure the development of public spaces that meet the needs of diverse populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National UN Youth Volunteer will be responsible for a range of tasks, including:
Conducting a desk review of existing municipal planning documents such as Periodic Plans, Sectoral Plans, and Integrated Urban Development Plans.
Organizing and facilitating consultative meetings and workshops with municipalities and communities to develop Gender Responsive and Climate Resilient Urban Planning Guidelines.
Supporting participatory workshops and community mapping exercises to gather data and insights.
Co-designing urban interventions at the ward level that are sensitive to gender and climate considerations.
Assisting in the selection of gender-sensitive and climate-resilient infrastructure projects for municipal annual plans.
Collaborating with municipal engineering divisions to develop technical project proposals.
Translating community designs into technical drawings.
Contributing to the monitoring of approved projects to ensure quality standards are met.
Engaging in activities that promote volunteerism and community involvement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate professionalism and integrity, with a strong understanding of UNOPS operations and the ability to work effectively in diverse environments. They should possess excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate clearly, and a commitment to gender equality and diversity. The role requires adaptability, problem-solving skills, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently. A genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement is essential.
