World Resources Institute (WRI) China Office was established in 2008 as WRI’s first international office. The organization currently employs over 60 full-time staff members who work on various programs including Sustainable Transition, Sustainable Investment, and Food & Nature Resources. WRI China engages with a wide range of stakeholders including businesses, policymakers, and civil society at local, national, and international levels to promote transformative solutions for sustainable development and ecological civilization. Recently, WRI China has registered as a foreign NGO under the Ministry of Public security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE).

Job Overview:
The Agriculture Research Analyst will be responsible for conducting research focused on sustainable transition policies and practices in agriculture, particularly in relation to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to carbon neutrality targets. The role involves collaborating with both WRI Global and WRI China teams to produce knowledge products such as reports, briefs, and blogs in both English and Chinese. The analyst will also present research findings at various meetings, conduct surveys and interviews, and assist in organizing events and workshops aimed at disseminating project findings and building capacity among stakeholders. This position is crucial for advancing the research on China's agricultural sustainable transition and its connections to global agendas like climate change and biodiversity conservation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct evidence-based research and analysis on food system policies and practices, focusing on reducing GHG emissions from the agriculture sector.
  • Collaborate with WRI Global and WRI China teams to draft or co-draft knowledge products including briefs, reports, and working papers in both English and Chinese.
  • Present research findings at internal and external meetings as required.
  • Conduct surveys, interviews, and field visits with team members and project partners.
  • Assist in organizing external events, workshops, and conferences for project dissemination and capacity-building activities.
  • Contribute to project proposals, implementation, and progress reporting.
  • Support other activities as assigned by the manager.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in agriculture, food, environmental science, environmental economics, or related fields; cross-cutting expertise is a plus.
  • At least three years of relevant full-time work experience in agriculture, food, or environmental sectors.
  • Strong quantitative research, analytical, writing, and presentation skills, with a preference for candidates with publication experience.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, manage multiple priorities, take initiative, and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a multicultural environment, demonstrating good work ethics.
  • Detail-oriented, positive, enthusiastic, and innovative in addressing challenges and opportunities.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as agriculture, food systems, environmental science, or environmental economics. Additional qualifications in cross-disciplinary areas will be considered an advantage.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of highly relevant and full-time work experience in fields related to agriculture, food systems, or environmental research. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in quantitative research and analysis, as well as experience in producing written materials for publication.

Languages:
Fluency in both written and spoken Mandarin and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered beneficial but is not required.
