Job Overview: The RCO China is seeking a motivated administrative intern to join its office on a full-time basis. This internship is designed to provide a unique opportunity for the intern to learn about the operations of the UN system at the country level. The intern will work under the guidance of the Executive Associate to the Resident Coordinator and will be involved in various administrative and coordination tasks. The internship is unpaid and will last for six months, requiring the intern to work five days a week for eight hours each day. The intern will gain valuable insights into the workings of the UN and contribute to its mission in China.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's duties will include, but are not limited to: providing coordination and administrative assistance at the Front Office, finalizing and formatting official correspondences submitted to the Resident Coordinator, coordinating approvals, providing translation and interpretation services as needed, supporting the management of chrono filing, archives, and contact information databases, and completing other ad hoc tasks as requested by the office or supervisor. Additionally, the intern may perform other tasks assigned by the Executive Associate that align with the learning objectives of the internship.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum master's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants should also possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed or be currently enrolled in a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program, with a focus on a field relevant to the internship. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern can effectively contribute to the tasks and responsibilities associated with the position.
Experience: The internship does not require prior professional work experience. However, candidates should have a background in a field related to the internship to ensure they can effectively engage with the tasks assigned and gain the most from the experience.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English and Chinese is required for the internship. Additionally, knowledge of French is beneficial, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
