Job Overview: The internship is located in the Conference and General Services Section (CGSS) within the Division of Administration. It is designed for a period ranging from two to six months, depending on the needs of the Division. This is an unpaid, full-time internship requiring interns to work five days a week, totaling 35 hours. Interns will gain hands-on experience in various administrative functions related to conference management, general services, host country relations, and catering services. The role involves working under the supervision of a staff member within CGSS, with the possibility of flexible working arrangements. Interns are expected to develop their drafting skills in English and engage in a variety of tasks that will enhance their understanding of UN operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will have a diverse set of daily responsibilities that may vary based on their individual backgrounds. Key duties include: assisting in drafting and preparing official documents; attending and summarizing meetings; conducting document, market, and internet research; working on web presentations; compiling statistics; generating various reports and work orders using databases in Excel and SAP; performing data entry and extraction functions; conducting media analysis; evaluating projects; and liaising with other sections of ESCAP and/or other UN entities regarding CGSS administrative matters. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, is essential for this role.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. No prior work experience is required, but relevant training, education, or skills that can benefit the UN during the internship are encouraged.
Educational Background: Candidates must be either enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree program.
