Job Overview:
The Fundraising Consultant for Plastic Waste will play a crucial role in supporting the sustain phase of Indonesia's National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP), hosted by WRI Indonesia. This position involves developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy aimed at securing funds for the continuation and expansion of plastic waste management programs. The consultant will work closely with key stakeholders, including the Plastic Waste and Ocean Manager, the NPAP team, and the GPAP team at the World Economic Forum. The consultant's primary focus will be on mobilizing resources for the next phase of NPAP, set to begin in 2026, and establishing operational mechanisms to accommodate various donors, including a multi-donor funding scheme. The role requires collaboration with relevant teams to align fundraising strategies with organizational goals, assessing current efforts, identifying areas for improvement, and conducting research to identify potential donors. The consultant will also lead the development of tailored proposals and reports, ensuring that they resonate with funders' priorities and interests.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Fundraising Consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Collaborating with relevant teams to develop fundraising strategies that align with the organization's mission and project goals.
  • Assessing current fundraising efforts to identify areas for improvement and recommending new approaches.
  • Conducting research to identify potential donors and supporting the team in arranging influential meetings, leading preparations, and reporting on relationship-building efforts.
  • Researching and identifying grant opportunities, including assessing trends to remain competitive in a dynamic landscape.
  • Leading the development of proposals and reports tailored to funders' priorities and interests.
  • Working closely with the program team to create impactful narratives and data-driven reports.
  • Participating in institutional efforts to enhance relationships with current donors.
  • Establishing operational mechanisms for accommodating diverse donor schemes in collaboration with WRI Indonesia's operations team and the World Economic Forum.
  • Developing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for managing funding from various donors, including multi-donor schemes. 1
  • Delivering a comprehensive fundraising strategy, analysis of funding mechanisms, and a database of potential donors for the next phase of NPAP. 1
  • Conducting surveys and interviews with NPAP members and potential donors to explore funding possibilities and expected deliverables. 1
  • Creating a comprehensive proposal for the next phase of NPAP, detailing funding mechanisms and long-term planning.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in environmental management, business, or a relevant field, with a Master's degree preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of eight years of external fundraising experience, ideally within a large international organization. Experience in environmental or climate-related fields, such as oceans, cities, forests, or energy, is desirable. A proven track record of successfully securing grants from foundations, foreign governments, or multi-lateral organizations is essential. Candidates should possess strong writing and proofreading skills, with the ability to translate technical information into lay language. Familiarity with the Indonesian environmental landscape, including relevant policies, stakeholders, and funding opportunities, is crucial. A professional-level understanding of project management and best practices for donor relationship management is required, along with a basic understanding of PMEL standards and theory of change. Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills are necessary, as well as excellent communication and presentation abilities. Candidates must be able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing circumstances. Experience in an international team environment is a plus, and candidates should understand compliance requirements related to fundraising activities in Indonesia. Proficiency in both English and Indonesian languages, both written and verbal, is mandatory, along with the ability to travel as needed. High attention to detail, organizational skills, and strong analytical capabilities are also essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in environmental management, business, or a relevant field. A Master's degree is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities involved in environmental management and fundraising.

Experience:

Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

  • The consultant will receive compensation upon completion of specific deliverables, including the development of a Standard Operating Procedure for accommodating different donor funding mechanisms, a comprehensive fundraising strategy, and a proposal for the next phase of NPAP. The consultant rate will be commensurate with experience and skills, and travel insurance will be provided for any travel duties assigned by WRI Indonesia. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position.
