Job Overview: The Audio/Video Conference Technician will play a crucial role in facilitating communication and collaboration within UNMISS by ensuring the smooth operation of video and audio conferencing systems. This position requires a proactive individual who can manage technical aspects of conferencing, including setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment. The technician will work closely with the Video Conference Unit Supervisor and will be responsible for supporting video/audio conferencing activities at the mission's headquarters in Juba and across various state capitals. The role demands a strong understanding of networking technologies, video conferencing platforms, and audio equipment, as well as the ability to provide technical support to users. The technician will also be involved in the distribution and management of IT equipment, ensuring that all necessary tools are available and functioning for successful conferences. This position is vital for maintaining effective communication within the mission and supporting the overall objectives of UNMISS.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with the operation, maintenance, and testing of video and audio conferencing equipment at UNMISS HQ and other state capitals.
Provide support for all video/audio conferencing activities, including setup and operation during conferences.
Test equipment and establish necessary Wide Area Network (WAN) links prior to conferences.
Oversee the entire conference to ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
Ensure all necessary equipment for video and audio conferences is tested and operational.
Install, coordinate, set up, and configure Cisco video conference equipment.
Monitor and schedule video conferences, communicating with clients regarding meeting arrangements.
Support users with various meeting platforms such as MS-Teams, Zoom, Webex, and others.
Assist with the installation, maintenance, and operation of audio conference equipment and satellite communication devices. 1
Set up Public Addressing (PA) systems for events and meetings. 1
Manage the distribution and return of CITS equipment, including inventory management functions. 1
Monitor and log events related to WAN maintenance and operation. 1
Perform other duties as required to support the mission's objectives.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in operating and maintaining video and audio conferencing equipment.
Strong technical skills in networking, particularly with Cisco switches and routers.
Familiarity with LAN/WAN protocols and technologies.
Experience with satellite communication technologies is an advantage.
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and provide effective solutions.
Strong communication skills to interact with clients and team members effectively.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
Educational Background: A minimum of a high school diploma is required, with a preference for candidates holding a degree or certification in Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field. Additional training in audio/video technology or networking is highly desirable.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in audio/video conferencing technology, IT support, or a related field. Experience working in a multicultural environment or with international organizations is an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in South Sudan, is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Juba, South Sudan, and may require travel to other locations within the mission area. Candidates should be prepared for austere living conditions and the possibility of water shortages and power outages. The role is full-time and may involve working in challenging environments.
