Job Overview:
The Administration Intern position is situated within the Office of the Assistant-General for Human Resources (OASG OHR) in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC) at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. This internship is designed to be a full-time, in-person role, with a flexible duration of six months. The intern will work closely with the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary-General or the Human Resources Officer, gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of human resources and communications strategy implementation. The intern will be expected to liaise with different offices to address individual communications requests and assist in the review and publication of communication materials. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the UN's mission while developing valuable skills in human resources and communications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: liaising with different offices regarding individual communications requests; assisting with the proofreading and editing of content for print, web, and multimedia; updating web content; proposing improvements for web graphics and design; evaluating existing records management and reference tools; participating in record-keeping improvement projects; drafting notes, speech-writing, and preparing reports and background documents; providing statistics and running reports related to the office's work; preparing presentation materials, including graphs, charts, Excel tables, and PowerPoint slides; reviewing staff recommended for placement in view of mission downsizing; and assisting with other HR strategy implementation tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). A background or exposure to human resources, public administration, or related issues is desirable. While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, and MS Teams.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. The internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and gain practical experience in a professional setting.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in French is desirable, and knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage.

This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. For in-person internships in the United States, non-citizens or permanent residents must obtain a G-4 visa for full-time internships. Interns on non-immigrant student visas (F-1 or J-1) may only intern part-time.
