Job Overview:
The Communications Officer position is situated within the Communications and Results Reporting Section (CRRS) of the UN Development Coordination Office (DCO) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This temporary role is available until August 31, 2026, and is designed to support the communications and results reporting activities of the UN. The officer will be responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies that effectively raise awareness and engage target audiences. This includes drafting compelling narratives and messaging that highlight the work of the UN across various channels and platforms. The role also involves monitoring media coverage, analyzing public narratives, and identifying reputational risks to inform the communications strategy. The Communications Officer will work closely with regional teams and Resident Coordinator Offices to ensure the timely submission and quality of UN country team results reports. Additionally, the officer will create content for the UNSDG Chair report and develop interactive online summaries to reach a global audience. The position requires a proactive approach to creating communications campaigns and partnerships that maximize impact and advance UN priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing insights and analysis from media monitoring; contributing to the development of communications strategies; drafting narratives and messaging; tracking and reviewing UN country team results reports; supporting the production of the UNSDG Chair report; creating content for the interactive UNSDG Chair Report; drafting communications products such as press releases and reports; participating in communications campaigns; developing strategic partnerships; delivering outreach and advocacy strategies; ensuring technical enhancements for the e-Report; monitoring performance of technical components; contributing to social media assets; serving as a focal point on policy and reporting; maintaining confidentiality and integrity; and analyzing communications approaches to assess their effectiveness. The officer will also be responsible for collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights through data visualization methods.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, international relations, journalism, marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">digital marketing, or a related field. They should demonstrate the ability to write and edit content for digital platforms, particularly for international organizations. Knowledge of content management systems and backend operations for managing complex, multilingual websites is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience liaising with field offices for reporting purposes and skills in processing and analyzing large volumes of data.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, international relations, journalism, digital marketing, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields such as communications, international relations, journalism, or digital marketing. Candidates should have a proven track record of writing and editing content for digital platforms and managing complex websites, particularly in an international context.

Languages:
English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. French is also a working language, and proficiency in it is considered an asset. Candidates should refer to the UN Language Framework for the minimum required level of proficiency in these languages.
