Job Overview:
The Web Consultant position is crucial for the Department of Global Communications (DGC), specifically within the Campaigns and Country Operations Division. This role involves creating and updating web pages that communicate important messages related to the Secretary-General's priorities, including events like Earth Day and World Environment Day. The consultant will work closely with the Climate Section to mobilize action on climate change by effectively communicating scientific information and advocating for stronger governmental actions. The consultant will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining websites that support climate action and peace and security campaigns, ensuring that the content is accessible and engaging for a diverse audience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining the climate action and peace and security campaign websites in collaboration with Project Managers, UN Web Services, and the digital campaigns unit.
  • Advising on the organization, structure, and layout of the websites, ensuring they are user-friendly and multilingual.
  • Uploading content to the English versions of the websites, which includes text, images, and multimedia elements.
  • Creating new webpages as needed and presenting layout options for new content.
  • Keeping track of updates in English to facilitate replication by language units.
  • Undertaking additional assignments such as research and drafting for the website as required by Project Managers.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in web design or web development. A first-level university degree is required, demonstrating a foundational understanding of the principles of web design and development. Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory, as the role requires effective communication and content creation in this language. Experience with UN websites or those of other international organizations is considered an asset, as it indicates familiarity with the specific needs and standards of such platforms.

Educational Background:
The position requires a first-level university degree, which typically includes a bachelor's degree in fields related to web design, web development, communications, or a similar area. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to perform the duties effectively.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least five years of relevant experience in web design or development. This level of experience is essential to ensure that the consultant can handle the complexities of creating and managing web content for high-profile campaigns and can work effectively within the UN's framework and standards.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this position, as it is the primary working language of the UN. Additionally, knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable. This multilingual capability is important for ensuring that the content is accessible to a wider audience and aligns with the UN's commitment to multilingualism.
