Job Overview:
The Deputy Country Director (DCD) will work closely with the Country Director (CD) to provide leadership and management for strategic programming. This role involves overseeing the development, quality, and accountability of SI's programs. The DCD is responsible for ensuring that program activities are coherent, evidence-based, adaptable to changing contexts, and conflict-sensitive. The position requires the DCD to monitor programs closely and ensure they are adequately resourced. The DCD will face challenges such as adapting program strategies to evolving needs and funding, reinforcing program coordination with partners, and supporting the localization agenda for project management positions through capacity building. In the initial months, the DCD will focus on enhancing field teams' rapid implementation capabilities, structuring the program team for new bases in Nyala and Khartoum, and ensuring program feasibility during the rainy season in coordination with support departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Country Director to lead strategic programming and ensure program quality and accountability.
  • Adapt program strategies based on evolving needs and funding opportunities.
  • Strengthen program coordination and referral capacities with partners.
  • Support the localization agenda for project management positions through capacity building initiatives.
  • Improve field teams' rapid implementation capacities through tailored programming.
  • Structure the program team for new operational bases in Nyala and Khartoum.
  • Ensure program feasibility during the rainy season by coordinating with support departments.
  • Monitor program activities to ensure they are driven by needs and evidence-based.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among team members and stakeholders. 1
  • Represent SI in relevant forums and meetings to advocate for program needs and resources.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in a relevant field such as humanitarian response, international cooperation, or development studies.
  • Experience with Solidarités International is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the context of Sudan is a plus.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a similar position.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a related field, which may include humanitarian response, international cooperation, development studies, or one of SI's technical fields such as Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), or Shelter.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with 0-2 years of experience in a similar role. This experience should ideally include working in challenging environments and managing humanitarian programs.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an advantage, while knowledge of French is also seen as an asset.

  • The role is based in N'Djamena, Chad, and involves potential travel to Sudan where security constraints may be present. The salary is competitive, starting from EUR 3080 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided. SI covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's home country and the assignment location. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, along with an additional rest day for each month worked. Expatriates are provided with a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs.
