Job Overview: The MMC Research Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the Mixed Migration Centre's research initiatives in Sudan. This position encompasses a variety of tasks, including quantitative data analysis, enumerator management, survey review, and other related activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring data accuracy, quality control, and timely project deliverables. The role requires a passion for research on mixed migration issues and an understanding of the experiences of refugees and migrants as they navigate their journeys to, within, and from East and the Horn of Africa, as well as Southern Africa. Duties and Responsibilities: The MMC Research Assistant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: working closely with the Information Management Specialist to support MMC’s quantitative data management needs; reviewing survey tools and supervising enumerators; conducting thorough reviews of quantitative data collected through surveys and providing feedback to enumerators; ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and completeness; reviewing completed surveys in Arabic and other relevant languages; identifying and resolving inconsistencies or errors in the data; recruiting, training, and supervising enumerators to ensure adherence to data collection protocols; monitoring enumerator performance and providing ongoing support and guidance; addressing any issues or challenges that arise during data collection; supporting MMC with targeted outreach and dissemination to key migration stakeholders; assisting in the organization and logistics of MMC-organized evidence and learning events; preparing research proposals and reports; contributing to the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations; supporting MMC’s communications needs; assisting the team with administrative tasks related to the running of MMC and its projects; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a BA in social sciences, with specific coursework in the field of migration and qualitative data collection and analysis being highly desirable. An MA or MSc in the social sciences is also desirable. Additionally, candidates should have at least one year of experience working in quantitative data collection and supervision, excellent writing and editing skills, and a demonstrated ability to synthesize and condense information. Experience in generating graphs and tables of data using Excel is highly desirable, as is previous experience working with international NGOs. Candidates should be enthusiastic about learning, pushing limits, and finding new solutions, and must have strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in Arabic. Attention to detail and rigor in dealing with qualitative data are also essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a BA in social sciences, with a preference for candidates who have specific coursework related to migration and qualitative data collection and analysis. An MA or MSc in the social sciences is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of experience in quantitative data collection and supervision. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with data, particularly in a research context, and should demonstrate strong analytical skills. Experience with international NGOs is advantageous, as it indicates familiarity with the operational environment and challenges faced in humanitarian contexts.

Additional Notes: The contract for this position is for 6 months, with the possibility of extension subject to funding and performance. The position is classified under the Non-Management Band/I.
