Job Overview: The Water Science and Engineering Research Intern will play a crucial role in supporting research activities within the water security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security sub-cluster of WRI Indonesia's Food-Land-Water (FLW) Program. This internship is designed for individuals who are passionate about water resources management and its impact on ecosystems and human well-being. The intern will engage in desktop studies, data collection, and analysis related to water science, management, and engineering, under the mentorship of the Water Program Lead. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of scientific evidence for policy recommendations and knowledge products, while also collaborating with other WRI Indonesia programs on cross-cutting issues. The intern will be based in Jakarta and will benefit from a flexible working arrangement, allowing for a blend of in-office and remote work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct desktop studies on water science, management, and engineering topics, including data collection and analysis.
Collaborate with the Water Program Lead to develop research methodologies and frameworks.
Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations summarizing research findings.
Engage with stakeholders from public and private sectors to gather insights and data relevant to water security.
Participate in cross-program initiatives to address water-related challenges and contribute to broader organizational goals.
Support the development of policy recommendations based on scientific evidence and research outcomes.
Maintain organized records of research activities and findings for future reference.
Attend meetings and workshops to enhance knowledge and network with professionals in the field.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor student or recent graduate in water resource management, environmental science, environmental engineering, or related fields.
Strong ability to read, comprehend, and summarize large volumes of academic and non-academic literature within tight deadlines.
Basic understanding of spatial analysis, data engineering, or groundwater management is advantageous.
Demonstrated interest in nature conservation and improving human well-being.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia, both written and verbal, is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree in disciplines related to water resource management, environmental science, environmental engineering, or other relevant fields. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of water-related issues and contributing effectively to the research activities.
Experience: While prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to water resources, environmental science, or engineering will be considered a plus. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges in a research environment.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is mandatory, as the intern will be required to communicate effectively in both languages. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: This internship is a full-time, paid position with a duration of three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance, project needs, and budget availability. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position. The internship includes standard wages, travel insurance for any assigned travel duties, and access to the WRI global network. Final candidates may be required to complete a writing test and provide two writing samples as part of the selection process.
