Job Overview: The Research Analyst position at IFPRI's Development Strategies and Governance Unit (DSG) is a critical role that involves engaging in various research projects aimed at improving food policy and governance in Myanmar. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, cleaning, and analyzing both primary and secondary data, which is essential for the development of effective policies. This role requires a strong understanding of household survey methodologies, as the analyst will assist in survey design, sampling, and questionnaire development. The position also entails conducting statistical and econometric analyses, literature reviews, and contributing to the writing of discussion papers and donor reports. The Research Analyst will coordinate field implementation of survey activities, which may involve travel to rural areas of Myanmar, and will prepare datasets for public access, ensuring that data documentation is thorough and accessible. The role is designed for individuals who are passionate about research and its application in real-world scenarios, particularly in the context of food policy and governance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Research Analyst include but are not limited to:
Collection, cleaning, and analysis of primary and secondary data.
Assisting in the handling of household survey data, including survey design, sampling, and questionnaire development.
Developing research instruments and analytical tools to facilitate data analysis.
Conducting various forms of data analysis, including statistical and econometric analysis.
Performing literature reviews and synthesizing findings to inform research projects.
Contributing to the writing of discussion papers, donor reports, and other scholarly publications.
Coordinating field implementation of survey activities, which includes scoping, pretesting, and training survey enumerators.
Preparing large datasets for public access and developing data documentation manuals or other learning materials as needed.
Helping to develop and coordinate technical workshops. 1
Interacting with collaborators and project partners to ensure effective communication and project execution. 1
Performing other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Research Analyst position include:
A Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or a related field, along with two years of professional experience, or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
Experience in conducting literature reviews of academic publications and research reports.
Demonstrated experience in coordinating field activities and effective interaction with collaborators and project partners.
Proven experience working with large quantitative datasets, including data cleaning, management, and analysis.
Ability to perform in-depth statistical analysis and report results effectively.
Fluency in written and spoken English and the Myanmar language.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented, multicultural environment.
Strong multitasking abilities, with a consistent track record of meeting deadlines and managing time effectively. 1

Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or a related field. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in economic principles, research methodologies, and data analysis techniques, which are essential for the role of Research Analyst.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in a relevant field. This experience should include conducting literature reviews, coordinating field activities, and working with large datasets. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to analyze data and report findings, as well as experience in collaborating with various stakeholders in research projects.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English and the Myanmar language is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in other local languages such as Shan, Karen, Kachin, Chin, and/or Mon is considered a valuable asset and is preferred but not required.
Additional Notes: This is a one-year, non-renewable appointment based in Yangon, Myanmar. The position may require travel and extended stays in different parts of rural Myanmar. Interested applicants must be authorized to work in Myanmar. The role is full-time, and candidates should be prepared for the physical demands of the job, which may include sitting for extended periods and lifting light weights. The work environment will involve close visual acuity for data analysis and extensive reading.
