Job Posting Organization: Wahana Riset Indonesia (Young Scientists Incubator) is an initiative from WRI Indonesia aimed at nurturing a battalion of young researchers to conduct research on environmental issues and generate high-quality knowledge products. This initiative supports science-based policy-making in sustainable development and has successfully managed two previous batches resulting in numerous scientific publications and presentations. WRI Indonesia has been operational since 1982 and has a global staff of over 1,800 people, working across 60 countries, focusing on critical challenges such as climate change, energy, food, forests, water, sustainable cities, and the ocean. The organization collaborates with various stakeholders to develop practical solutions that improve lives and ensure nature thrives in Indonesia.
Job Overview: The Young Research Analyst position is designed for early-career researchers with a strong interest in environmental issues, particularly those affecting Indonesia's coastal cities. The role involves conducting research on specific sub-themes related to climate resilience and urbanization, contributing to the overarching question of how to enhance climate resilience in coastal cities. The analyst will work closely with WRI Indonesia’s research clusters to develop and refine research questions and approaches, ultimately co-producing research products that address pressing environmental challenges. The program emphasizes innovative, data-driven solutions and policies informed by applied research, aiming to support WRI’s global impact targets and vision for livable, climate-resilient neighborhoods.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Young Research Analyst will be responsible for co-authoring high-quality research products, including journal articles and knowledge products. They will conduct data analysis, contribute to reports, and may co-author opinion pieces for news outlets. The analyst is expected to consistently deliver results within agreed time frames, adhere to research ethical guidelines, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive data. They will also engage in collaborative research efforts, manage competing priorities, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills while working with diverse teams.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of research experience and at least 3 years of formal working experience. They should possess excellent academic performance, ideally with a minimum GPA of 3.
Strong research skills, flexibility, and a willingness to explore unfamiliar topics are essential. A demonstrated interest in Indonesia's environmental and sustainability issues is crucial, along with a commitment to stay until the end of the research project. Proficiency in both oral and written English and Indonesian is required, with specific language proficiency benchmarks (TOEFL: 550, IELTS: 6). A basic understanding of research methodology is also necessary.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Urban Climate Vulnerability and Resilience, Coastal Livelihood and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security, Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries, Air Pollution, Climate Action (Adaptation & Mitigation) Planning and Implementation, or Urban Transport/Mobility. This educational background is critical for understanding the complex environmental issues that the research will address.
Experience: The position requires early-career researchers with a minimum of 3 years of formal working experience and at least 5 years of research experience. This research experience can include work conducted during university studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as research conducted in professional settings. The emphasis is on candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to research and have a solid foundation in relevant environmental topics.
Languages: Proficiency in both English and Indonesian is mandatory for this position. Candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills in both languages. Additionally, familiarity with other languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

The terms of payment are based on a daily rate, with a maximum of 18 working days per month on average.
