The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) is a part of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs. It is dedicated to assisting countries in Asia and the Pacific in achieving their peace, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and disarmament goals. The organization focuses on providing substantive support, coordinating activities at various levels, and sharing information on global and regional activities. UNRCPD plays a crucial role in implementing international agreements aimed at preventing and combating illegal flows of conventional arms, promoting dialogue, and building confidence on issues related to arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation. The Centre also addresses challenges to peace and security by engaging women and youth and promoting peace and disarmament education. Established as part of the UN's broader mission, UNRCPD organizes seminars, workshops, and training sessions to further its objectives and enhance regional cooperation.

Job Overview:
The Public Information Intern will support UNRCPD in its mission to promote peace and disarmament in the Asia-Pacific region. The intern will be involved in various programmatic areas, including Weapons of Mass Destruction, Conventional Arms and Ammunition, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education, and Cross-Cutting Issues such as Gender, Youth, and Emerging Technologies Security. The role will require the intern to assist with strategic communication and public outreach, develop media products for web and social networking platforms, and create content that raises awareness about disarmament issues. The intern will also draft and edit publications, design presentations, and contribute ideas for design projects that enhance the visibility of the Office. Daily responsibilities will vary based on the intern's background and assigned tasks, providing a comprehensive learning experience in a dynamic international environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: assisting the Office with strategic communication and public outreach; developing media products for web and social networking platforms; creating content management and developing disarmament stories to increase awareness among key audiences; drafting and editing publications such as fact sheets, brochures, newsletters, and donor-related updates; designing and producing presentations and supporting materials to enhance the Office's visibility; proactively contributing suggestions and ideas for design projects; and performing any other duties as requested by the supervisor. The intern is expected to engage actively with the team and contribute to the overall mission of the UNRCPD.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: they must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or they must be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent). Additionally, applicants should possess strong communication skills, creativity, and a willingness to learn and contribute to the UN's mission.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as international relations, communications, public policy, or a related discipline. A strong academic background is essential, and applicants should demonstrate their knowledge and interest in disarmament and peace issues.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to public information, communications, or international relations will be considered an asset. The internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and gain practical experience in a professional setting.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable and will enhance the candidate's application. Strong language skills will be beneficial for drafting and editing publications and engaging with diverse audiences.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a professional staff member. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. It is important for candidates who are not citizens or permanent residents of Nepal to discuss visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
