Job Overview:
The Security Sergeant position at ECA's Security and Safety Services (SSS) involves performing a variety of security and safety duties under the overall command of the Chief of SSS. The Security Sergeant is responsible for responding to security incidents, enforcing safety measures, monitoring traffic, conducting patrol inspections, and assisting in emergency operations. The role requires effective communication and teamwork, as well as the ability to lead and motivate security personnel. The Security Sergeant will also assist in administrative tasks, data collection, and analysis, and will act in the absence of the Security Lieutenant. This position is crucial for maintaining a safe and secure environment within the ECA premises.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Respond promptly to security and safety incidents, including thefts, accidents, and fires, and prepare reports on actions taken.
  • Enforce security measures, including screening visitors and monitoring movements within the premises.
  • Conduct traffic monitoring and enforce parking regulations.
  • Brief officers on potential security threats and operational plans.
  • Conduct ground and building patrol inspections and routine searches for suspicious activities.
  • Investigate reported incidents, interview witnesses, and prepare investigative reports.
  • Participate in developing Emergency Operation Plans and coordinate activities during emergencies.
  • Organize fire and safety exercises, including evacuation drills.
  • Provide emergency First Aid assistance. 1
  • Assist the Security Lieutenant with administration, including daily work instructions and performance evaluations. 1
  • Liaise with local security and law enforcement on incidents. 1
  • Assist with data collection and preparation of reports for decision-making. 1
  • Perform other duties as required by the Chief of SSS.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Passing the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of United Nations Security policies and practices, sound judgment, and the ability to lead and motivate security personnel. Professionalism, effective communication, and teamwork are essential skills for this role.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates must also pass the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) administered at the Duty Station as part of the recruitment process.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least five years of progressive experience in security work within military or police establishments, with a minimum of two years at a supervisory level. For those with a first-level university degree or higher, the minimum experience requirement is reduced to three years. Practical experience in UN security services operations and the ability to lead a small tactical security unit are desirable. Experience in data analytics or related areas is also a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language, such as French, is considered an advantage.
