Job Overview: The Multimedia Specialist will be responsible for the digitization of selected African artworks and the creation of dynamic interactive multimedia displays. This includes the development of short documentaries, films, and audio-visual materials that convey stories in a simple and logical manner. The role requires a combination of creativity and technical skills to produce high-quality multimedia content that enhances user experiences in museums, exhibitions, and events. The specialist will work closely with a team to deliver multimedia content for both mobile and permanent exhibitions at the Africa Hall Visitors Centre, focusing on themes related to Pan Africanism and the United Nations' impact on Africa's development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and produce high-quality multimedia content for various interactive platforms, including projections, touch screens, VR/AR setups, and other interactive displays.
Collaborate with designers, developers, and project managers to conceptualize and execute multimedia projects from inception to completion.
Develop storyboards, prototypes, and mockups to visualize and plan multimedia content.
Create animations, video footage, graphics, and audio elements that align with project goals and user experiences.
Utilize software and tools for 2D/3D design, video editing, and animation (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Cinema 4D, Unity, Unreal Engine).
Ensure multimedia content is optimized for performance and compatibility across various devices and platforms.
Implement interactive elements and user interfaces that are intuitive and engaging.
Conduct user testing and gather feedback to iterate and improve multimedia content.
Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in interactive design and multimedia production. 1
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to multimedia content delivery. 1
Perform other assignments requested by the supervisors and related to KMSS mission and activities.
Required Qualifications: Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in multimedia, graphic design, visual arts, fine arts, creative arts, technical production, visual communication, or related area is required. A first level university degree in a combination of additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the master's degree. Five years’ experience in multimedia software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro), 3D software (Cinema 4D, Maya, Blender), and interactive development tools (Unity, Unreal Engine) is required. Knowledge of coding languages beneficial for interactive experiences, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS is also necessary. A background in UX/UI design is essential, along with proficiency in video production and editing, including motion graphics and visual effects. Experience with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) content creation is desirable, as well as familiarity with interactive hardware such as touch screens, projection systems, and sensor-based interfaces. Prior experience in a similar role within museums, exhibitions, or events spaces is also desirable.
