Job Overview: The Security Officer position at ECA's Security and Safety Services (SSS) involves providing security services for the protection of persons and property. The role requires the officer to perform security functions under the command of the Chief of SSS, reporting directly to the Security Sergeant or supervising officer. The officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety of the premises, monitoring security equipment, conducting inspections, and responding to emergencies. The position also entails providing special security for conferences and dignitaries, supervising subordinate security officers, and assisting in data collection and analysis for security operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide security services for the protection of persons and property during specified working hours, including nights and weekends.
Conduct tours and security control, checking ID cards and car permits to ensure proper identification.
Ensure all outgoing UN properties have valid gate passes and inspect incoming items.
Regularly inspect grounds and buildings for security risks and violations.
Operate security equipment, including CCTV systems and metal detectors.
Monitor electronic surveillance for suspicious activities.
Maintain fire and safety precautions, conducting regular inspections and ensuring firefighting equipment is operational.
Provide special security for conferences, checking facilities for explosives and ensuring delegate safety.
Offer escort services for dignitaries and sensitive materials. 1
Assist in supervising subordinate security officers and maintaining records of activities. 1
Collect and analyze data for reporting and decision-making. 1
Update information materials and carry out other tasks as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Passing the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) is a prerequisite for recruitment. At least three years of experience in security-related work is required, with a reduction to one year for candidates with a first-level university degree. Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, are desirable. Experience with the UN system or an international NGO is also preferred, along with experience in data analytics or related areas.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates must pass the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) administered at the Duty Station to be considered for recruitment.
Experience: At least three years of experience in security-related work is required. This experience can be in various sectors, including national security, military, police, or private security. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may have the minimum experience requirement reduced to one year. Experience in data analytics or related fields is also desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an advantage.
