Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at UNCTAD is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical experience in the field of international trade and development. Interns will work full-time, five days a week, and will be expected to engage in various tasks that support the organization's mission. The internship is unpaid and requires interns to cover their own travel, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns will receive training and mentoring throughout their time at UNCTAD, allowing them to develop their skills and gain valuable insights into the workings of an international organization. The position is located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and is primarily focused on supporting the Regional Office for Africa of the Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes (ALDC). Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to the dissemination of UNCTAD's research, assist in communications efforts, and engage with various stakeholders in the field of trade and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in organizing dissemination activities for UNCTAD's research; updating social media platforms and running campaigns on priority issues; producing short videos, animated clips, and graphics for campaigns; updating office databases; conducting internet-based research; compiling information related to UNCTAD's work; developing communications products such as press releases, reports, brochures, and newsletters; contributing to the implementation of the office's communications strategy; identifying key contacts and opportunities for strategic partnerships; organizing conferences, seminars, and outreach events; and preparing briefing materials for senior officials. Interns are also expected to observe all applicable rules and regulations of the UN, respect the impartiality and independence required of the organization, and refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Additionally, interns should be computer literate in standard software applications, have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. A university degree in journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related area is required. Professional work experience is not mandatory, but a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a university degree in a relevant field such as journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related area. They should be enrolled in the final year of their first university degree program (bachelor's or equivalent), or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion of the degree will be required during the application process.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the internship's focus. This could include projects, research, or volunteer work related to international trade, development, or communications.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French is considered desirable and may enhance the candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, and all costs related to travel, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern. Interns must have a valid visa for in-person internships and are expected to adhere to all UN regulations and guidelines. The internship is full-time, and interns should be prepared to work 40 hours per week. There is no expectation of employment with the UN following the internship, and interns are not eligible to apply for professional-level positions within the UN for six months after the internship ends.
