Job Overview: The Tour Guide position at UNECA involves engaging with a variety of visitors, including tourists, students, and VIPs, to provide informative and friendly tours of the Africa Hall Visitors Centre. Duties and Responsibilities: The Tour Guide will be responsible for greeting and receiving visitors, conducting tours, answering questions, and providing accurate information. Responsibilities also include assisting with marketing and communications projects, preparing and updating informational materials, and supporting promotional activities. The Tour Guide must be observant of visitors' safety and actions, assist with data collection and analysis, and prepare presentations and reports. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Education in fields such as history, political science, international relations, tourism and hospitality, communication, journalism, heritage studies, cultural studies, marketing, or business administration is advantageous. Knowledge of strategic communications principles, risks to information integrity, and critical thinking skills are essential for this role. The ability to adapt communication styles to different audiences and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions is also required.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory for this position. Additional education in relevant fields such as history, political science, international relations, tourism and hospitality, communication, journalism, heritage studies, cultural studies, marketing, or business administration is highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid understanding of strategic communications and the ability to navigate complex information environments.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in roles such as tour guiding, communication, journalism, public information, marketing, or tourism and hospitality is required. For candidates with a first-level university degree or higher, the minimum experience requirement is reduced to three years. This experience should demonstrate the ability to engage with diverse audiences and manage visitor interactions effectively.
Languages: The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, proficiency in either English or French is required. Knowledge of additional languages such as Amharic, Arabic, or Chinese (Mandarin) is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate with a broader range of visitors.
