Job Overview: The Tour Guide Coordinator position is situated within the Publications & Conference Management Section (PCMS) of the Administration and Conference Management Division (ACMD) at UNECA. The coordinator will be responsible for creating schedules, managing logistics, and addressing any interpersonal issues that arise during tours. The coordinator will also support the collection of visitor feedback to enhance the overall experience and collaborate with the marketing team on outreach strategies. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of the Tour Guide Coordinator include directing the end-to-end flow of guided-tour operations, creating daily and weekly schedules, managing logistics, and making real-time adjustments to ensure a fair workload among guides. The coordinator will act as the central point of contact for all visitors, managing complex inquiries and resolving grievances tactfully. Responsibilities also include monitoring guide performance, overseeing high-priority assignments such as VIP visits and special request tours, and ensuring compliance with organizational rules and professional ethics. The coordinator will assist in data collection and analysis, prepare presentations and reports, and update informational materials. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma, with additional education in fields such as history, political science, international relations, tourism and hospitality, communication, journalism, heritage studies, cultural studies, marketing, or public/business administration being advantageous. Knowledge of strategic communications principles, risks to information integrity, and skills in presentation, storytelling, and critical thinking are essential for this role. The ability to adapt to various audiences and maintain professionalism in all interactions is crucial.
Educational Background: A high school diploma is required for this position. However, candidates with further education in relevant fields such as political science, international relations, or tourism will be viewed favorably. Understanding strategic communications and the ability to navigate complex information environments are key educational components that will support the candidate's success in this role.
Experience: A minimum of seven years of experience in roles such as tour guide coordination, communication, journalism, public information, marketing, or tourism and hospitality is required. This experience is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Familiarity with strategic communications and experience in data analytics or related areas are also desirable, as they will enhance the candidate's ability to perform effectively in this position.
Languages: The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, with proficiency in either language required for this position. Additionally, knowledge of Amharic, Arabic, and Chinese (Mandarin) is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate with a diverse range of visitors and stakeholders.
