Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for Data Collection to Support UN SIOC involves engaging with the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Information and Operations Centre (SIOC) within the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) in Afghanistan. The primary function of this role is to assist in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of security information that is critical for the safety and security of UN personnel and operations. The Online Volunteer will work closely with the Chief SIOC to enhance the design and delivery of visual materials for security presentations, briefings, and reports. This role is essential in ensuring that the UN can effectively communicate security risks and updates to its personnel and stakeholders, thereby supporting the organization's mission in Afghanistan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
  • Discussing and defining objectives and methodologies for data collection related to safety and security.
  • Developing or identifying suitable tools for data collection.
  • Identifying, screening, and validating data sources that pertain to security incidents, regional threats, and contextual developments.
  • Conducting data collection from selected sources to gather relevant information.
  • Compiling and preparing a comprehensive report that summarizes the findings from the data collected.
  • Ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and proper documentation of the data collected. The expected outputs from this role include comprehensive analyses of security data that lead to improved situational awareness, clear and accurate analytical reports, and enhanced security information products that support the Security Management Team. Additionally, the Online Volunteer will contribute to strengthening data-driven decision-making capacity for UNDSS/ISW Afghanistan and will receive coaching and mentoring throughout the assignment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess strong analytical skills and a keen understanding of data collection methodologies. They should be detail-oriented and capable of ensuring data accuracy and reliability. Familiarity with security-related data and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to the values and principles of the United Nations, including respect for diversity and a dedication to humanitarian principles.

Educational Background:
