Job Overview: The position is for two interns within the sector project 'Trade and Investments for Sustainable Development' based in Berlin and Bonn. The project advises the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on trade policy issues relevant to development. Interns will assist in developing consulting approaches and concepts to strengthen partner countries' capacities to integrate into the global economy. The internship is expected to start on April 28, 2025, although a later start date may also be accommodated. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the project's objectives and gain valuable experience in international development and trade policy.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for supporting the processing of inquiries from the BMZ regarding trade and investment agreements, EU trade instruments, WTO matters, Aid for Trade, digital trade, investments, trade and environment, gender equality in trade (feminist development policy), intellectual property rights, and trade facilitation. They will assist in preparing presentations, background papers, and reports, as well as conducting independent internet and literature research. Additional responsibilities include providing technical and organizational support for meetings, events, and publications, contributing to the monthly newsletter, supporting knowledge management and reporting, and coordinating activities with partner organizations in both German and English.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed at least the third semester of a relevant degree program in economics, law, political science, or comparable social sciences. They should possess study or work-related knowledge and experience in economic or trade policy consulting and/or trade promotion related to development cooperation or foreign trade policy. A strong interest in preparing information for both internal and public communication is essential, along with the ability to formulate and structure texts appropriately for different target groups. Proficiency in German and English is required, while knowledge of French is advantageous. Excellent IT skills, flexibility, quick comprehension, initiative, sociability, self-motivation, and good time management are also necessary.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled in a relevant degree program or in a training program that includes an internship as an integral part. Alternatively, candidates may have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.
Experience: Interns should have some relevant experience or knowledge in trade policy, economic development, or related fields, ideally through previous internships or academic projects that align with the responsibilities of this position.
Languages: German and English are mandatory working languages for this position. Knowledge of French is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's profile for this role.
