Job Overview:
The Biodiversity Policy Finance Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the UNDP's initiatives aimed at enhancing biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of natural resources. This position involves developing and implementing financial strategies that align with biodiversity policies and frameworks. The specialist will be expected to analyze existing biodiversity financing mechanisms, identify gaps, and propose innovative solutions to mobilize resources effectively. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners, to promote sustainable financing for biodiversity projects. The specialist will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the impact of financial interventions on biodiversity outcomes, ensuring that they contribute to the overall goals of the UNDP.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of current biodiversity financing mechanisms and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop financial strategies and models that support biodiversity conservation efforts in alignment with national and international policies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement innovative financing solutions for biodiversity projects.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of financial interventions and their impact on biodiversity outcomes.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Provide technical assistance and capacity building to partners on biodiversity finance issues.
  • Stay updated on global trends and best practices in biodiversity financing and integrate them into UNDP initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in biodiversity finance, including knowledge of financial instruments and mechanisms that support conservation efforts.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex financial data and develop actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and implementation of biodiversity-related initiatives.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in biodiversity conservation or sustainable finance would be an advantage.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in biodiversity finance, environmental economics, or related fields is required. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs on biodiversity projects is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, would be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration will be specified upon selection. The position is full-time and may involve remote work options depending on the circumstances. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's policies.
