Job Overview: The National Consultant - Architect/Interior Designer position is focused on delivering impactful and sustainable design solutions for educational facilities in Ukraine, particularly in the context of rehabilitation and repairs of war-damaged social infrastructure. The consultant will be responsible for providing expertise in interior design and architecture, ensuring compliance with international standards and guidelines, and aligning designs with the New School Concept. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including local authorities and school management, to address community needs and enhance engagement. The consultant will also support the development and refinement of the Pilot School Project Concept, advocating for its principles and objectives at all levels.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National Consultant include:
Technical Expertise and Design Development: a) Provide specialized knowledge in interior design, architecture, and usability to deliver sustainable results. b) Align designs with the New School Concept guidelines established by the Ministry of Education and Science. c) Ensure compliance with international standards, including Accessibility, HSE, Gender Mainstreaming, and Energy Efficiency. d) Develop and refine 3D visualizations to present design concepts to stakeholders. e) Research and recommend modern, ergonomic, and durable furniture solutions for educational settings. f) Prepare detailed furniture specifications, including technical descriptions and compliance with safety standards.
Strategic Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: a) Work closely with the UNDP Project Manager and engineering team for seamless integration of solutions. b) Collaborate with UNDP Community Officers to engage local authorities and school management. c) Present design ideas to communities to foster understanding and ownership.
Methodology and Conceptual Development: a) Provide methodological guidance for programming processes. b) Prepare detailed materials to describe the Pilot School Project Concept. c) Contribute to strategic discussions to advance the project concept.
Procurement and Vendor Management: a) Oversee procurement activities related to architectural and design solutions. b) Ensure procurement aligns with the New School Concept guidelines.
Advocacy and Networking: a) Build partnerships with government counterparts and stakeholders. b) Advocate for the Pilot School Project Concept at various levels.
Results-Oriented Contributions: a) Ensure that all contributions are aligned with the project's goals and objectives, focusing on delivering measurable outcomes and impacts.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the National Consultant position include: - Proven expertise in architecture and interior design, with a strong portfolio of relevant projects. - In-depth knowledge of international standards related to accessibility, health, safety, and environmental considerations. - Experience in working with educational facilities and understanding of the New School Concept guidelines. - Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. - Proficiency in design software for creating 3D visualizations and technical drawings.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes: - A degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field. - Additional certifications or training in sustainable design practices, accessibility standards, or project management would be advantageous.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in architecture and interior design, particularly in the context of educational facilities. Experience working with international organizations or on projects related to rehabilitation and community engagement is highly desirable.
Languages: Mandatory languages for this position include proficiency in English and Ukrainian. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Russian, would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of up to 3 months. The consultant will work primarily from home, with the possibility of engaging with stakeholders in the Kyiv region. The role is full-time, and compensation will be based on the consultant's qualifications and experience, in line with UNDP's standards.
