Job Overview:
The position of Driver within the UNDP Ghana is crucial for supporting the Environmentally Sustainable Production Practices in Cocoa Landscapes, Phase IV (ESP IV) project. This project operates in the Ahafo and Western regions of Ghana, focusing on forest conservation and restoration efforts. The driver will be responsible for providing reliable and safe transportation services for project personnel and experts, ensuring adherence to local traffic rules and regulations. The role requires a client-oriented approach, demonstrating courtesy, tact, and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The driver will also be responsible for maintaining the project vehicles, ensuring they are in good working condition, and managing vehicle logs and maintenance plans. Duties and Responsibilities:
The driver will ensure the provision of reliable and safe driving services for authorized passengers, which includes: Safely driving ESP IV project vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel; meeting and conveying official personnel from UNDP CO and visitors to project sites; strictly observing local traffic rules and regulations; collaborating with the ESP IV Project Coordinator to provide relevant transport services; following security guidance provided by supervisors; maintaining daily vehicle logs; ensuring proper maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including timely minor repairs and arrangements for major repairs; ensuring the availability of required documents and supplies in the vehicle; and taking immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of an accident. The driver will report primarily to the ESP IV Project Coordinator and will be based at the project office in Goaso, with occasional transportation needs to Accra and Wassa East.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed Secondary School Education and possess a valid Ghanaian Driver’s license. A minimum of 2 years’ work experience as a driver in an international institution, non-governmental organization, governmental organization, embassy, or UN system in Ghana is required. Additional work experience is considered an asset. Candidates should have knowledge of Ghana driving rules and regulations, be skilled in minor vehicle repairs, and possess strong communication and customer service skills. The ability to work independently and manage time effectively is essential. Desired skills include a safe/clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents, familiarity with GPS navigation and electronic logging devices, and the ability to conduct routine vehicle inspections and perform basic maintenance tasks.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes the completion of Secondary School Education. A valid Ghanaian Driver’s license is also mandatory for this role, ensuring that the candidate is legally permitted to operate vehicles in Ghana.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of work experience as a driver, specifically in contexts such as international organizations, non-governmental organizations, governmental organizations, embassies, or within the UN system in Ghana. This experience is crucial for understanding the operational protocols and expectations associated with driving in a professional capacity, particularly in a development context.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English, and candidates must be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms. Proficiency in English is essential for interacting with project personnel and stakeholders.
