Job Overview: The Child Protection Manager will be responsible for managing and supervising all stages of child protection programs, focusing on international cooperation and humanitarian interventions. This role involves strategic planning, program development, and ensuring compliance with national and international standards for child protection. The manager will provide technical advice, operational support, and ensure that comprehensive evidence-based data on child protection issues is available to guide UNICEF's strategic policy advocacy and intervention efforts. The position requires keeping abreast of national, regional, and international development priorities to leverage UNICEF's competencies and advocate for child protection interventions and policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Programme Development and Planning: Provide technical advice and operational support for the preparation and design of situation analyses to ensure comprehensive data on child protection issues. Set program priorities and strategies based on current evidence.
Programme Management: Plan and collaborate on monitoring and evaluation initiatives, establish benchmarks, and assess performance accountability. Oversee the use of program resources and ensure compliance with organizational rules and donor commitments.
Advisory Services: Provide technical advice to government officials and partners on strategies and best practices for child protection. Participate in strategic discussions to influence policy and agenda setting.
Advocacy and Networking: Build and strengthen partnerships with local/national governments, UN agencies, and NGOs to promote child protection goals. Represent UNICEF in inter-agency discussions.
Innovation and Capacity Building: Promote innovative approaches for sustainable child protection initiatives and organize capacity-building initiatives for stakeholders.
Management: Lead and manage the Child Protection team, ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation of results and optimal use of financial resources.
Required Qualifications:
Education: An advanced university degree in international development, law, human rights, children’s rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or a relevant social science field.
Work Experience: A minimum of eight years of international professional experience in planning and management of child protection programs in development and humanitarian contexts. Desirable experience in middle-income countries and experience in other UN agencies is an asset.
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required, with proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese being desirable. A commitment to achieving fluency in Portuguese is expected if not already acquired.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields related to international development, law, human rights, children’s rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or other relevant social sciences. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of child protection and rights advocacy.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of eight years of international professional experience specifically in the planning and management of child protection programs. This experience should encompass both development and humanitarian contexts, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of child protection issues and strategies. Experience in middle-income countries is desirable, and familiarity with other UN agencies will be considered an asset.
