Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Operations Management Team (OMT) workplan, which includes the Business Operations Strategy (BOS) and the Common Back Office (CBO). This position requires a strong focus on data collection, reporting, and strategic communications to promote a client-oriented and results-based approach within the OMT Secretariat. The consultant will be expected to engage with various stakeholders, ensuring that the processes are inclusive and participatory, while also contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the UN's operations in Thailand.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties will include coordinating the implementation of the BOS and CBO, providing support to the OMT co-chairs, and ensuring the delivery of efficiency gains. Responsibilities will involve:
  • Coordinating support for the OMT to implement BOS and CBO objectives through follow-up, review, and monitoring & reporting activities.
  • Providing secretariat, substantive, and logistical support for consultative meetings related to Business Operations Strategies Policy.
  • Guiding the OMT Secretariat UN Volunteer in collaboration with the UN Resident Coordinators Office in Thailand.
  • Supporting the implementation of other Efficiency Agenda workstreams, including CBO and Common Premises.
  • Developing strategic communication and knowledge management products to raise awareness and secure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Contributing to the preparation of talking points, presentations, and background notes for OMT initiatives.
  • Ensuring stakeholder participation in OMT project activities to maintain inclusivity and transparency.
  • Establishing and maintaining partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including UN agencies.
  • Mainstreaming the usability of new systems and processes within the OMT secretariat team. 1
  • Performing other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master's Degree or an equivalent advanced degree in Development, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Management, or a related field. Additionally, candidates must have a minimum of five years of working experience in research, analysis, or providing technical advice to government or international development organizations. Prior experience in preparing UN Business Operations Strategies and country-level experience is desirable. Experience with business operations reporting under the UN Development System reform and coordinating joint projects or inter-agency support is also preferred.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or an equivalent advanced degree in a relevant field such as Development, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, or Management. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to perform effectively in this role.

Experience:
The consultant should have at least five years of relevant working experience. This experience should include research, analysis, or providing technical advice to government entities or international development organizations. Experience in preparing UN Business Operations Strategies and familiarity with the UN Development System reform is highly desirable. Additionally, experience in coordinating joint projects or inter-agency support, particularly with UN agencies or international NGOs, will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. This includes the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms. Proficiency in other languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory for this role.
