Job Overview:
The Interaction (UX) Designer will play a crucial role in the ICT and Digital Innovation Section at UNICEF's East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO). This position is centered on leading and supporting the design and delivery of user-centered digital solutions aimed at improving situational reporting (SitRep) and data-driven emergency responses. The designer will work closely with a small data team and various stakeholders to develop automated visualizations and cost estimation tools for disaster response. The role also involves supporting high-effort initiatives like damage assessments for health and education infrastructure, ensuring that user needs are prioritized in the design process. This consultancy offers an opportunity to contribute to transformative digital solutions for vulnerable populations, aligning with UNICEF's mission to create a better future for every child.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Interaction (UX) Designer will be responsible for developing user-centered design concepts for automated situational reporting tools and other necessary tools. Key duties include leading the design of systems for visualizing population displacement and creating cost estimation tools for disaster response. The designer will also support the development of systems for damage assessments in health and education infrastructure and preparedness tools for scenarios with unreliable data collection during emergencies. Collaboration with teams to design inclusive and interpretable data visualizations is essential, focusing on mobility and displacement data, population density, and health and education facility locations. The designer will translate research insights into actionable design decisions, facilitate design sessions for cross-team collaboration, document design decisions, and ensure alignment with organizational goals. Agile methodologies will be employed to adapt to changing priorities and user needs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess core skills at the practitioner level, including design communication, the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, and experience in designing ethical, inclusive, and accessible digital services. Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) is essential. Candidates should have experience aligning user-centered design with organizational goals and facilitating collaborative design workshops. Evidence-based design skills, including proficiency in analyzing user research and iterating designs based on feedback, are required. Leadership skills at the working level are also necessary, including experience leading design efforts and mentoring junior designers. Additionally, a strong portfolio showcasing complex digital design projects is required, along with familiarity with design tools like Figma or Adobe XD and frontend HTML/CSS experience.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background in design, human-computer interaction, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of user-centered design principles and practices, as well as familiarity with the mission and ethical commitments of UNICEF.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in UX or interaction design roles is required. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading design projects and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to achieve user-centered outcomes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the East Asia and Pacific region would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy contract duration is from 17 March 2025 to 16 September 2025, totaling six months. No travel is required for this consultancy. Payment will be made upon satisfactory completion of deliverables, with a structured payment schedule based on the completion of specific milestones.
