Job Overview: The Gender, Private Sector, and Livelihoods Specialist will play a crucial role in the Project Preparation Grant (PPG) Team, which is tasked with developing the Prodoc for the AIBDES project in Indonesia. This position requires a deep understanding of gender issues, private sector engagement, and livelihoods, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation. The specialist will work closely with the GEF Project Design Expert (PDE) to ensure that the project meets social and environmental safeguard criteria. This includes developing an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), preparing an Indigenous Peoples’ Plan, and establishing a Grievance Redress Mechanism. The role demands a proactive approach to integrating gender considerations into all aspects of the project, ensuring that interventions benefit all social groups equitably. The specialist will also be responsible for engaging the private sector to enhance project outcomes and sustainability, as well as analyzing community livelihoods to propose actionable plans for improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a comprehensive gender analysis based on literature review and project landscape assessments to inform project strategies.
Develop a gender strategy that ensures equitable benefits from project interventions for women, men, youth, and other relevant social groups.
Create a detailed gender action plan that integrates gender mainstreaming into the project’s results framework, activity plans, and budget.
Identify strategic approaches for engaging the private sector to enhance project effectiveness and sustainability.
Map key business sectors linked to biodiversity and identify potential partners for collaboration.
Develop a draft Private Sector Engagement Plan and propose concrete activity plans for project components.
Analyze baseline situations in target landscapes to inform community livelihood strategies.
Propose actionable plans for livelihood improvement and contribute to other project components as needed.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in gender, livelihood development, and private sector engagement, preferably in sectors such as forestry, agriculture, or mining.
Proven ability to conduct gender analyses and develop gender strategies and action plans.
Experience in engaging with the private sector and developing engagement plans.
Strong analytical, facilitation, communication, and computer skills.
Knowledge of environmental and social safeguards and relevant legal provisions.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing, Agriculture, Environmental Economics, or related disciplines. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of gender, livelihoods, and private sector dynamics in the context of environmental sustainability.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience working on gender issues, livelihood development, and private sector engagement. This experience should preferably be in sectors related to forestry, agriculture, or mining, where the candidate has demonstrated the ability to implement strategies that promote gender equality and sustainable livelihoods.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is mandatory for this position. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in both languages to engage with diverse stakeholders and ensure project objectives are met. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is open to nationals or residents of the country with a valid work permit. The role is expected to be full-time, and candidates will be assessed based on their experience in targeted project landscapes and their core competencies, including results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing. The selection process will prioritize candidates who demonstrate strong facilitation and analytical skills.
