Job Overview: The Programme Coordinator position within the Communication and Information Sector of UNESCO is pivotal in promoting freedom of expression and media literacy. The incumbent will work under the authority of the director-general" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information and will be responsible for managing various professional and technical tasks related to programme management. This includes conducting research and analysis, coordinating activities within the Executive Office, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration with both internal and external partners. The role emphasizes the importance of data analysis, strategic planning, and resource mobilization to enhance the impact of UNESCO's initiatives in communication and information.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Coordinator will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Coordinating the activities of the Executive Office by collecting and analyzing data, preparing briefings, and facilitating collaboration among partners.
Managing the programme cycle by ensuring the preparation and planning of the Medium-Term Strategy and biennial Programme and Budget, as well as monitoring the implementation of budgetary activities.
Supporting resource mobilization efforts by analyzing partnership data, providing guidance for fundraising opportunities, and reviewing project proposals.
Developing outreach strategies to promote the CI Sector's programmes and ensuring effective knowledge management within the Executive Office.
Overseeing contract management and providing administrative support to ensure compliance with established processes.
Encouraging teamwork and cooperation among staff and providing guidance to consultants and interns.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in fields such as communication and information, political sciences, public policies, international studies, or social sciences. Additionally, a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in coordinating large programmes in communication and information is required, with at least two years at the international level. Candidates should demonstrate excellent drafting and editing skills, planning and coordination abilities, and the capacity to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office, are essential.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communication and information, political sciences, public policies, international studies, social sciences, or a related field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication and information management within an international context.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, particularly in the coordination of large programmes related to communication and information. This experience should ideally include at least two years in an international organization, focusing on planning, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of programmes. Familiarity with the workings of UN organizations and experience in supporting governing bodies' meetings are considered advantageous.
Languages: Candidates must have excellent knowledge of English or French, with a good knowledge of the other language being desirable. Knowledge of other official languages of UNESCO, such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and/or Spanish, is also considered a valuable asset.
