Job Overview:
The position of Senior Legal Trainer involves establishing a pool of consultant trainers who will support the UNHCR Paris office. The trainers will work closely with the Protection Unit of the Paris Office, utilizing their legal and geopolitical expertise to enhance understanding of asylum procedures and cases. The training can be conducted in person or virtually, and will be accompanied by written materials to aid in the learning process. The role is flexible, with the specific scope and workload determined based on the ongoing needs of the UNHCR operation. The trainers will also be required to complete mandatory UNHCR trainings to ensure they are well-prepared for their responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Legal Trainer will have a variety of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Preparing and delivering training sessions tailored for members of legal professions and other relevant professions dealing with refugee rights.
  • Developing comprehensive written training materials that align with the training sessions.
  • Providing relevant legal and geopolitical expertise to enhance the training experience.
  • Conducting training sessions according to an agreed schedule, ensuring that all sessions are effectively delivered.
  • Submitting written training materials for review and approval.
  • Maintaining accurate timesheets to document the hours worked and the training sessions conducted.
  • Collaborating with the UNHCR Paris office to ensure that the training meets the needs of the organization and its stakeholders.
  • Adhering to UN core values and maintaining a high standard of professionalism throughout the training process.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • An advanced university degree in law, international law, or a related field.
  • A specialization in refugee law and human rights law is essential.
  • Significant experience in the asylum field, including the ability to draft and analyze judicial decisions.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience as a trainer in relevant fields.
  • In-depth knowledge of the French and EU asylum systems.
  • A CEFR C2 level proficiency in French is mandatory.
  • Desired competencies include excellent legal analysis and drafting skills in French, autonomy, initiative, teamwork, and adherence to UN core values.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in law, international law, or a closely related field. Candidates should have specialized knowledge in refugee law and human rights law, which is critical for effectively training others in these areas.

Experience:
The position requires a substantial level of experience, specifically a minimum of 8 years in training roles related to legal analysis, refugee law, and human rights. Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is French, with a required proficiency level of CEFR C

The role is categorized as Senior Level Support, and the compensation for each mission is set at EUR 250 per day, payable upon completion of the service and submission of required documentation. The trainers will be engaged on a retainer basis, with specific terms of reference issued for each mission, detailing the scope of work and payment terms.
